The existence of the MSEI Association gives strength, support and solidarity to each of the member Mercy schools - staff, students, School Councils and parents – as the work of Mercy Education continues into the future.
Mercy Secondary Education Inc (MSEI), is the delegated authority which oversees the operation of the education ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, Melbourne Congregation. In 1997, MSEI was established by the Congregation Leader and Council under Victorian State Legislation in compliance with the Associations Incorporation Act 1981. Through its Board of Management, MSEI is responsible for the governance and operation of the seven Mercy sponsored schools owned by the Congregation.
The seven Mercy schools incorporated under the MSEI Association are:
| Academy of Mary Immaculate, Fitzroy, Victoria | Founded 1857 |
| Sacred Heart College, Geelong, Victoria | Founded 1860 |
| St Aloysius College, North Melbourne, Victoria | Founded 1887 |
| Sacred Heart College, Kyneton, Victoria | Founded 1889 |
| Mount Lilydale Mercy College, Lilydale, Victoria | Founded 1896 |
| St Joseph’s College, Mildura, Victoria | Founded 1906 |
| Our Lady of Mercy College, Heidelberg, Victoria | Founded 1910 |
The Sisters of Mercy, Melbourne Congregation also has joint responsibility for two secondary schools which are partially owned and governed in partnership with a Diocese or Parish and other Religious Congregations. Over time, the Congregation established or administered several other secondary schools for which they no longer have any responsibility. Some of these have closed and others have primary classes only. Several of the existing secondary colleges have chosen to be affiliated with Mercy Secondary Education Inc, particularly in order to retrace their roots and to gain a greater understanding of the Mercy ethos and the philosophy and mission of the Sisters of Mercy.
